First Aid Kit for FM weary ears

by Wayne Mumford on January 23, 2012

I was vaguely listening to the radio on my way to town this morning and something came across the airwaves that sounded like real music. I thought I was hearing something new from one of my all-time favorites, Emmylou Harris. Not coincidentally as I listened the song title was “Emmylou”.

I got home and did a quick search and found out some more on the artists, two sisters, Klara and Johanna Soderburg who comprise the group, First Aid Kit. I don’t know if it was where I was at during the moment but it was musical stick upside the head. I think they sound great, sometimes like Emmylou, sometimes Stevie Nicks, but also very much a sound of their own. The talented pair from Sweden also do their own writing and arrangements. Fishing music if I’ve ever heard it. Stay out of Nashville ladies, you don’t need them!

I also like the look of the videos and their website, hit the skids and go back about 40 years. Reminds me of The Byrds, Graham Parsons, Buffalo Springfield and so forth. Groovy!

Oh my god! These guys are from Sweden. They became famous on Youtube for thier cover of Fleet foxes’ Tiger Mountain Peasant Song. Check it out! They are great. I can’t believe they are on the radio now.
