Montana Snow Pack for January 8, 2012

The bar graphs at NRCS are down right now so I used the basin maps for this post. I think we had more snow in November in Montana than we do now. Where is La Nina and the negative northern oscillation and all that weather jazz that was supposed to bring us another pile of snow this winter? No sign of it yet.

Skim ice, mud, water and no snow

I picked up a copy of the Farmers Almanac the other day and it’s actually running pretty close to what we have actually seen this last fall and early winter. They are calling for an uptick in precipitation in late January and March but overall normal to warmer temps and below normal precip. April and May they are forecasting to be cooler and snowier. So, go figure. It’s been a weird season so far but still plenty of time to get blasted by winter weather.
