Recycled bottle ship Plastiki, crosses Pacific

by Wayne Mumford on July 26, 2010

12, 500 recycled plastic bottles, an irrigation pipe for a mast, solar and wind power, a 15×20 cabin; put it all together and you have the Plastiki. The ship, made of entirely recycled materials just completed a four month crossing of the Pacific from San Francisco to Sydney.

Could this spur a whole new trend in the boating world? Lets hope so, there’s probably enough plastic and plastic bottles floating the oceans to retool every vessel on it.
