Kermit’s a Goner

While the top water bite is not exactly going gang busters yet we still had a few takers. I drug out some of my foam frog top water fly experiments to see how the pike would size them up.

Kermit the top water foam frog is supper

The little league guys thought it looked pretty good, this one just about downed the whole works. Still have some technical issues to work out. The frogs keep getting over on their backs, not sure what to do with that.

I also tried out the RIO Toothy Critter leader which in concept is a good setup. Basically a beefy leader that you can get in different test strength tippet with about 15 inches of nylon coated wire braid on the end which in turn has a snap swivel attached to that.

My first impression was that it was a pretty cool layout but after a couple mini pike attacks and runs into the weeds the nylon coated wire braid was already beginning to kink. Not good. So I’ll probably end up snipping it off and adding a length of Tyger wire leader and leave it at that. I’ve had pretty good luck with that stuff.
