1st Annual World Championship Bass on the Fly Fishing Tournament- Lake Fork, Texas

Lake Fork, Texas Guide James Caldemeyer with a Lake Fork Largemouth

Look out Bassmasters, the fly fishing community is treading the haloed ground of the bait caster. And at none other than Lake Fork in Texas, home of some of the biggest Largemouth Bass in the country.

The 1st Annual World Championship Bass on the Fly Fly Fishing Tournament will be held on Lake Fork May 8th.

The scene, post-spawn Bass; hungry Momma’s and protective Poppa’s on the surface in the early AM and sub-surface as the day goes on. The state record, an 18+ lb. toad came out of this lake. I can only imagine what that thing would be like on a fly rod!

Sadly, a look at their sponsors page doesn’t look like they are exactly getting a lot of help from the fly fishing community so we need to maybe help them out some. I’m pretty sure I won’t make it this year but I think this is something that we should try to drum up some support for and make it a success and hope that it catches on elsewhere.

If you haven’t tried Bass on a fly yet it’s past time you did- especially on the surface. It’s killer.

Time to start the email campaign. I wanna catch one of these fish!

Thanks to guide James Caldemeyer for the shot of a nice Lake Fork, Texas Largemouth.

I have been flyfishing for bass for over fifty years. I fished Lake fork about seven years ago and did very well in 3 days with bass up to 8 lbs. I will be in Dallas feb 3 to 12 at the Dallas International boat show. I intend to fish Lake Fork On the 6th 7th and 8th using Diablo Kayaks. my cell is 970 946 7360 . I have been a registered outfitter in Colorado for 34 years. I welcome the opportunity to share ideas with other flyfisherman. lets talk.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for checking in here. Fishing for bass from a kayak sounds like a lot of fun and in 34 yrs of fly fishing for bass you no doubt have some good strategies for getting in their heads. Care to share some of them with us?
