There is definitely a shortage of is good websites and blogs about fly fishing for bass and unfortunately here in Montana, as rare as good bass fishing itself. You really have to hunt and have the timing down around here. If Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks weren’t such trout snobs, we could have a good bass fishery as well (without intruding on the sacred ground of the Cutthroat and Bull trout).
One site that recently blinked up on the blog radar is Bucket Biology, the bass fly fishing lurk of Kevin Price. Kevin haunts the northern Cal bass bayou’s sticking the lordly finned toads of the lily pad kingdoms with his fly rod. And he’s got the goods to prove it. Kevin is a signature tier at Idylwilde Flies. And for good reason, one look at these flies and if you know anything about ol’ bucketmouth you know these flies will turn his appetite loose like a fat woman on steroids. I’d have to add these to the pike arsenal too. You can purchase these flies from Idylwilde or go on big bug tying tear yourself.
Kevin has been good enough to post tutorials on tying two of his signature flies-

Snake Charmer, Kevin Price, Idylwilde Flies
The braid legs/tail are a great idea, known in macrame circles as Bonnie braid. I found this material at Pepperel Braid Company in both 4 and 6mm sizes in a variety of colors.
I can’t wait to plop these bugs down on the lords of the warm water this year. Thanks Kevin!

I am spending many nights tying up my summer supply of bass flied and will have to try out some of your patterns. Great read. Thank You.
That would be Kevin Price’s patterns, check his bass blog out- good stuff in there and it sound’s like his bassin’ season is already under way. I’m jealous, unless you want to bore a hole in the ice you can’t even get at a bass here for another six weeks.
Great blog !Your right,it is hard to find good bass fishing sometimes,to bad, they’er a great game fish.
