Largemouth from Japan ties world all tackle record

The IGFA has officially announced that Japan’s Manabu Kurita has tied the long standing world Largemouth Bass record held by America’s George Perry. Kurita’s fish came out of Lake Biwa in Japan,  Perry’s out of Oxbow Lake in Georgia. Both fish tipped the scales at 22 lb. 4 oz.  Kurita’s fish looks like it’s been eating bowling balls.

Watch the weigh in here. If you are a catch and release purist which a good many of us are these days including most serious bass anglers (that I know anyway), one hopes this female ended up back in the water even though bass are considered an invasive species by Japanese fisheries officials.

This is thought to be a photograph taken of Perry’s record Largemouth Bass. The fish was caught on Creek Chub’s Fintail Shiner. Creek Chub Bait Co. was in business from 1916-1978.

Kurita caught his fish with a live Bluegill.

Like a good many people in his day, Perry was not just fishing for the enjoyment of fishing; he was also putting food on the table and that’s where this fish ended up.
