Bunny-Back Jiggler

by Wayne Mumford on October 14, 2009

I was rummaging around different sites looking for bait fish patterns for the fall and came across the Bunny-Back Jiggler at Invicta Flies.

The pattern looks like it has the potential to do the job on a lot of different fish species including bass, pike, and trout and could be worked into a lot of different color variations. It also looks like it’s a pretty easy tie which is always a good thing.

The tutorial shows the tie using both mylar and tubing.

It also showed up at FlyTyingForum as a tube fly.

Hey Wayne, thanks for the email, will write to you today. This is a nice fly which looks like it has a small rattle build under it. I have a tutorial for a fly I call “The Rattle n Hum” which I will post on Monday which instead of having the beads encased in some tubing has them running along some wire outside. Actually if you cant wait got to this site http://www.flyrecipes.com/ and you’ll see the whole tutorial there. I mount the material under the hook so its facing upwards for fishing snaggy/weedy areas. The beads act not only as an attractant but also rattle slightly and also work as a counter weight . I also have 14 other tying tutorials on flyrecipes.com which you can find on the front page. Will write later mate.

That’s a cool idea for the rattle. I think the Bunny Back is actually just a weight in the mylar or tube but putting a rattle in there might not hurt either.

Also, thanks for the heads up on flyrecipes.com, another place to pick up on some good tutorials from talented tiers like yourself.

Looks like a great pattern. A good winter day will result in some of these for next season.
