First the confession, no flies were involved here. The toads were down deep in the lily pad stems. The weatherman says today is the end of our long run of unseasonably warm fall weather and the water temps reflect that; they are still pretty warm. Once the coming frost nicks the weeds then I will try the fly rod again.
Fishing was pretty good but the fish themselves looked a little thin which makes me wonder if the warm water hasn’t pulled the trigger on their fall feeding feeding frenzy yet?
This fellow tipped the scale at 5 3/4 lb. and just shy of 20 inches. I would guess that by November he will have hopefully packed on a couple more pounds or so to tide him over till spring. The bass around here go pretty much dormant in the winter so if you don’t get your bass fix by Halloween or shortly thereafter you might as well forget them till a few weeks after ice out.

I live in Michigan and love to fish for trout – but also spend a fair amount of time throwing lines to smallies, largemouth and pike. They are great fighters. Nice Pics.
