TyGer Leader

by Wayne Mumford on September 10, 2009

August was marked by to much domestic crap and not even close to enough fishing. We managed to sneak off to a nearby warmwater lake to chase Northern’s a couple nights a week for some topwater action. Right about sundown the ‘gators come topside looking for about anything that moves and that has made for some pretty exciting surface attacks using foam frogs, plippers and large bass poppers. There is nothing quite like seeing a large wake coming out from under the lily pads headed for your bug or a big splashy attack running a popper over a submerged weed bed.

It has also given me a chance to try TyGer leader, a new wire leader I found at one of the local sporting goods stores. It’s a little spendy at a buck a foot but it acts a lot more like mono than your typical wire leader, knots as easy and doesn’t seem to kink as bad. Oh yeah, it stands up well to those notorious teeth. I haven’t lost one yet but I haven’t hooked into anything above 5lbs. yet so the big stiletto’s haven’t come out yet.
