Dubbing Brush Machines

by Wayne Mumford on August 22, 2009

While waiting for Simon at PikeFishingArticles to post some how-to’s on dubbing Marabou and Fin Coon (if  Northern Pike are part of your fishing fetish you should definitely check out Simon’s blog) I thought I’d  look around again at dubbing brush tools.

Of course I had to give it an uneducated try, not being a really overly patient sort. I messed around for awhile with some Marabou and loops on a hook and dubbing twisters and started getting a little pissed off with the hassle; finally I surrendered and went searching for an alternative.

I found a couple on YouTube that caught my eye. This first one is pretty elaborate but looks like it would be well worth spending a couple days this winter putting together.

The second one is basically the same idea except that it’s hand powered and obviously a little smaller.

And, of course there is the Petitjean dubbing tools.

Continuing on, a machine made by Jos van den Dobbelsteen.

And of course there’s ebay…the last resort.

Updates (1-18-10) Twist up your own dubbing brushes on you own homemade dubbing brush twister- Lucky’s Dubbing Brush Twister and Scrooge’s Dubbing Brush Twister.

Hi Wayne, Gratet videos although they are rather long winded and time consuming. The petitjean dubbing tool is great as I have had one for some time and is mainly used for Marabou hairline than anything else and can be made for less than a dollar. Just cut yourself a straight groove with a saw 10mm deep into a 100mm length of wood. Then push the marabou hairline into the groove.(Center vein down into it). Then get an ordinary office paper clamp and clamp the protruding feathers with it. pull it out and cut away the main vein. you are left with the feather in the clamp. Now transfer the feathers onto you dubbing loop.Cheap and nasty.A real tight ass top tip mate. actually have a tutorial to make on which I have for Wednesday’s post.

Thanks for the tip Simon. That’s kind of what I was conjuring up and a project I can deal with now. This winter I think I will try to make a motor driven one that makes a longer brush.
