The dawn of fishing?

by Wayne Mumford on July 23, 2009

Even the denizens on a nearby branch of our presumed common evolutionary tree are apparently in the early stages of developing sport fishing. This Orangutan was photographed in Borneo attempting to spear fish in a river after observing the local natives in their fishing endeavors.

I assume this chap was fishing for sport or at least curiosity, I’ve not heard of Orangutans eating fish. Unless of course he followed the natives through the whole process from start to finish, in which case he may now be sitting by a little fire contemplatively cooking up this new addition to his diet.

Could beer, boats and custom rods be just a few million years away?
