Late last evening brought in a round of thunderstorms and some pretty serious downpours that lasted through mid morning which turned most streams into gushers. Water color of the day- think chocolate malt.
The Flathead river, which was easing its way up with the last couple days of warm weather looked like it was working it’s way up to bank load by this afternoon. It also looked like they opened the spigot on Hungry Horse and were letting it rip at a good clip. Moral of the story, the river is done for now- think lakes.
It’s looking about the same all over western Montana except for tailwaters and maybe high up in a drainage or two (Rock Creek maybe?). Mark and Jake over at Chi Wulff are keeping a close eye on the Yellowstone opener this weekend but it looks like we are now waiting out the runoff.
