Early week took us to Anaconda for funeral services for my father-in-law, Robert “Bob” Blotkamp. Bob is on my “A” team, people in my life that I look up to for their character, accomplishments and standing in their family and community. 97 years of good living, a more honest, hardworking, loving, humorous person you couldn’t find; and a fighter till the end.
Bob owned Anaconda’s Ford dealership for over 30 years. He took his last ride around town in his prized 1966 Mustang that came from the dealerships sales floor. We will miss him dearly and count his time among us as a special blessing.
We also found a little time to fish. Monday was a beautiful day, mid 60′s and no wind. We hit the upper Clark Fork about an hour ahead of a late pm storm and found a good Caddis hatch in progress. The fish were definitely looking up. I managed to rein one in before the storm blew the whole scene to pieces.
By Tuesday morning, less than twelve hours later it was a totally different story. The “s” word was back. We decided to hibernate, tell stories and eat to much.
Late Wednesday things were looking up before the mad dash for home so we decided to brave the still lingering wind. The sun was shining but the Caddis nowhere to be found. I tied on an Ammonite Nymph, which I was hoping to pass off as a Scud and found one taker before it was time to roll.
My man’s got it made
He’s gone far beyond the pain
And we who must remain go on living just the same
We who must remain go on laughing just the same
