Updates on bills that have already put pooh on my shoes.
HB 418, the horse slaughter house bill appears to be headed for a veto by the gov. It’s just those little details, like regulation and allowing legal oversight that are always getting in the way of progress. The gov says rewrite it and put it in, legislative proponents say “no”. Probably dead as doornail.
HB 228, the unconcealed weapons bill? What is this bill anyway? It actually got a little reworking, now it allows concealed weapons without a permit outside city limits only. Inside city limits, nothing has changed; concealed weapons with a permit only. Why bother? It looks to me like legislature is more concerned about dreaming up assinine issues that no one cares about till they start stirring the pot instead of actually doing something constructive. Political sideshow. It’s those subtle little nuances that make all the difference I guess.
SB 425, Walleye are forever. Looks like we anty up to cover Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks ass- again. I think it’s past time to have someone look in on the MFWP fiscal and management policy- or the lack thereof.
The one bill that us fishing folks really care about and the one that incidentally is a poster child on how to get things done; HB 190, the Stream Access Bill. The bill should actually pass without a problem and it looks like everyone worked through their issues, came to a general consensus and got a bill that works for everyone.
How about that! The freaking state might be coming unraveled while legislature acts like a class full of spoiled children with a substitute teacher but we are going to come out of it with a stronger Stream Access Bill. Proof that there is some justice left in this world.
