Why couldn’t this happen in the summertime when greater Yellowstone is under siege from to many tourists and fisherman? While the chance of a significant erruption is next to nill, the fanatic frenzy could go a long way toward opening up some nice stretches of river fishing.
On the other hand, if the Yellowstone caldera did decide to go into an eruption phase; the Lake Trout invasion in Yellowstone Lake would no longer be much of an issue. In fact, it might improve things a bit around here by sliding all those nice trout filled rivers a hundred miles or so to the northwest, putting them within an easy days drive.
The Hebgen lake slide in 1959 was 7.1 on the Richter Scale, the highest measurement during the recent swarm is 3.9.
