Montana trout fishing road trip
The summer runs start this weekend. Even though the popular spots will be thick with fishermen their should still be some nooks and crannies to look up. The 4th of July weekend hit list includes the upper Clark Fork, Warm Springs Creek, Georgetown Lake and possibly the upper Bighole.
Next week I have some training for work that will take me to Billings. I am hoping to get a crack at the Bighorn River. Flows are still pretty high so wading could be tough.
Toward the end of the month is a ten day run that will include the Bighole, the Missouri, Clark Fork, and Georgetown Lake. By then Flows should be coming in pretty nice.
We fished the smaller drainages last week and they were still a little high but should be fine now. The bigger rivers are still running high but the consensus seems to be that mid month should see them coming into good shape. Could be a good run clear through August this year. The temps really popped the last two weeks, especially this week. Its acting like it wants to jump right into the high temperatures early on like it did last year. I guess we are going to find out soon enough.
